"Free samples" is one of the most-searched terms in the UK every single month — and one of the most disappointing things to actually search for. Type it into Google and you'll get an endless wall of listicles, "100 freebies this week!" articles and links to offer walls that pay the listicle owner a few pence for sending you off into the void.
This guide is the version we wish existed when we started GetSamples.
The three kinds of "free sample" sites
- Aggregators. Curated link lists pointing at promotions hosted elsewhere. Some are fine, many are out of date, and the best ones get out of date fast.
- Offer walls. Sign up, complete 14 tasks, "earn" a sample. Avoid.
- Platforms. Actual companies that hold the relationship with the brand, send you the product, and capture your feedback. GetSamples is one of these.
How to actually get free samples in the UK
- Stick to platforms, not aggregators.
- Fill out your profile properly — matching is where the magic happens.
- Reply quickly when you're invited. Stock for each campaign is finite.
- Leave honest feedback. Brands fund the next round based on what they hear back.
What to avoid
- Anyone asking for a card payment to "cover postage" — postage is included on any legitimate platform.
- "Free iPhone" style offers. They are never free.
- Anything that requires you to download three apps before unlocking the sample.
